HeyOK
Just catching up a bit on favorite artists...
I missed that Ani played on Jay Leno. Gravel... actually the very first song I ever saw her perform live as she opened with it some years ago. Ani ROCKs if you didn’t know.
Ani DiFranco - Gravel (The Tonight Show)
Of course she cuts to the heart of the matter quietly too.
That led me back to Stuart who I saw play live a few weeks ago here in Minneapolis. Ahhh... good times. Easter for Julia. So many amazing musicians I can’t list or thank them all enough!
Ellis as well How would it be if heaven and hell were RIGHT NOW?
Just reliving good musical times... BLESS these artists for sharing so fully with us!
A couple special songs for Julia from EP! Too entice her to travel north and see him.

I'll revisit this post to hear more, but just now I heard Ani's Self Evident and it blew my socks off. Damn, I love that girl. I think I would have a blast rummaging through your music favourites lists : )
it's fun to swap favourites, isn't it? :)
Hey Crow… I remember weeping when I first heard Ani perform Self Evident… some sort of prerelease deal - maybe… can't recall IMO she was one of the first to put it in a poetic, poignant, artistic format with all the personal and big world facts woven in. Just shows how awesome she is. AND how blessed we are to have her and other performers constantly putting it out there.
Ya know we all have so much time to live in cyberspace and so much time to live in the real meat/meet and greet world. Songs, poems, books, quotes are a sort of short cut to sharing. A way to quickly say - this touched me. Then if we want we can take it further. Another blessing from this format.
My two dear friends… may today be full of slush and a cold wind. That's how it is for me today in Mpls. I wish you nothing less or more. WTF- you say?
Yes – I wish you the damp cold of the world rattling your windows and coupled with that the incredible love of close ones, hope, and dreams which refuse to let you forget that this storm too will pass and spring is eternal! Ahhh… the paradox!
Blessings, David
You did it again, David. I came back to this page, hung out with your words for a couple minutes and then clicked on The Speed of Trees.
It made my throat and heart swell. Got me on a whole bunch of different levels. I have a thing about trees (can't imagine anyone not having that thing, too). I hug them, not in protest, or to cause a scene : ) If you've never hugged a tree, you really have to try it. They take a slow deep breath and hug you back, armlessly, and you breathe, too. I have a special relatioinship with old white pines. When my youngest daughter was about 2, someone asked her “What do you want to be when you grow up?” She answered “A tree.” She's going to love this song : )
Plus, Ellis has a great sound (we're suddenly and already on a first name basis even though I've never heard him before). I love the happy feeling he exudes, and the way he sings out of the side of his mouth. I love that he equates loving with moving like a tree.
So it's you I have to thank for the slush and cold wind is it….. There's an albino squirrel out there hunkered inside her hollowed out tree, munching on last year's seeds, muttering WTF? : )
Once again, you've tossed me a song I refuse to follow up with another. Gotta let it sit. I'll be back to click again another time : )
gee thanks David my love for the slush and cold wind… WTF? we have been muttering here in Montreal not knowing that you sent the weather… lol
no, my dear friend, i do hear what your heart is saying. i love you. thank you for being the warm and dear presence you are not only to me and crow but to so many here on gaia and no doubt there in mpl
light, joy and many, many blessings!
Hee hee - I always wanted to control the weather. Mostly I wanted to put this whole global warming debate to bed. Poor albino squirrel.
I've hugged trees lots… and your right Crow. There's a couple special ones out there. I notice them and how long they stay… the standing people. One day I was driving my monthly drive to my military drill weekend and I thought how I'd driven past these same trees every month and more for years and years. It brings you back just to notice they're there.
I've hugged Julia lots lately too and am blessed to have found someone wonderful to share with. Thus the special nod regarding the speed of trees. (Hee hee - she reads my blog yet rarely all the comments so it's safe to say all that…)
I can't call Ellis Ellis 'cause there's another Ellis linked above who performs in Mpls. So many damn fine musicians. Lately I've been saying EP for those who I know are familiar with him.
Could you see he'd scrawled ANTI TERRORISM MACHINE across his guitar?
He travels in Canada a wee bit… Manitoba May 18th.
SO many blessings from you all on ZNG. Memories, connections, cyber hugs and kisses.
Ripple, ripple, ripple…
Sputter… beam… lighting up of eyes —– There's a Julia!?? OMG where have I been? I've been gone too long. I'm so happy to hear there's a wonderful someone in your life (big goofy smile). Very very happy to hear it.
oooh a Julia! congrats to you both! :)
Lord knows eventually I'd have to find someone willing to listen to a rant and then say, “OK is that it or should we try and do something about it too?” It's nice to be in a grownup relationship.
Blessings, David
amen and amen brother! so very good to hear
Because what Ani did to draw Utah Phillips into her crowd and what they did together was so brilliant, I post this tribute on his Memorial Day: http://beta.flowgram.com/f/p.html#g8w2p3da4sg3au
Ahhh… Awesome tribute TimeToShine. I hadn't heard of his passing. He was a marvel! And now another chance for folks to step up and fill shoes.
Thanks and blessings,
David
